Originally scheduled for a late afternoon start, the race will now begin at 1:00 PM local time in a move designed to avoid heavy thunderstorms forecast across Florida.
Race organisers, alongside the FIA and Formula 1 authorities, made the decision following discussions about safety and potential disruption. The aim is to give the race the best possible chance of running without interruption while protecting drivers, teams, staff, and fans.
Weather forecasts suggested worsening conditions as the day progressed, including the risk of lightning, which could force delays or even temporary suspension under strict safety rules.
The Miami race, part of the 2026 Formula 1 season, is set to run over 57 laps at the Miami International Autodrome. It remains one of the most high-profile events on the calendar, but this year’s edition faces added uncertainty due to the unpredictable weather.
